The first owner was Emily Maynard, the wife of James S. Ruiter, one of the sons of Jacob Ruiter, the first settler in Cowansville. In 1891, Ellen L. Gleason became the owner. She was the wife of the jeweller and clockmaker, Orison N. Hull.
