109,
William Street
Year of construction:
Around 1858
Type of architecture:
Neoclassical style
Historical elements:
This house was built by Andrew Cowan, brother of Peter Cowan who
gave his name to the town. The contractor firm Carter & Cowan
built many large houses in Cowansville and the area. In 1858,
Mr. Andrew Cowan died in Montreal and left this house to his wife
Mary Aitken that later remarried to David Mair who was mayor of
the Cowansville village. They lived together in that house. Later,
this building became a funeral home owned by Mr. Albert Bédard.
It is still today a funeral home, "Maison Funéraire
Désourdy Wilson".
