Before 1876, the Ste-Rose-de-Lima church was only a branch of
Dunham’s Ste-Croix church. It became a parish in 1876, but
no priest was assigned to it. The priest from Knowlton came regularly
to preach. Ste-Rose-de-Lima got its first parish priest and his
first chuch building in 1877. Around 1880, the first Sweetsburg
school was held in the basement of the church. On March 2nd ,
1888 a fire devastated the church. One year later, a new church
was rebuilt on the same site as the old one and the school was
relocated there.
