Born
in the State of Vermont in 1788, he graduated in medicine from
the University of Vermont at Burlington and settled in Nelsonville
(now Cowansville) about 1812. He afterwards got his degree from
McGill College in Montreal. He was the first medical practitioner
in Nelsonville and Sweetsburg (now part of Cowansville).
In the early days, he had to travel on horseback with saddle bags.
Soon
after his arrival, he built a log house on Main Street where he
lived for many years. And later he built a house on the same site
which was located near
the present Le MacHaffie restaurant.
In
1864, the year before his death, he was still active and listed
in the Nelsonville and Sweetsburg directory. |
